Bhoo is a small village situated in Rajapur Taluka, Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra, India. Its population totals less than 1000.〔(www.maharashtra.gov.in )〕 Situated eight kilometres northwest of Rajapur, it is well connected to it and to Ratnagiri by bus. It is a lush, picturesque village that boasts ample bettlenut, cashew, jackfruit, coconut and mango gardens. Its religious centers are dedicated to the Lord Lakshmikant, and Lord Shiva,and kalika devi mandir. There is also a holy temple dedicated to the maiden goddess Shree Aaryadurga approximately three kilometres from Bhoo. There is a dharamshala (religious rest house) at Aaryadurga. Due to regularly watered bittlenut gardens Bhoo is cool. Qualified people stay in village. Hence you should not wonder if you hear Pune(ri) Marathi, grammatical Hindi and fluent English occasionally famous astrologer Keshav Padhye (Ved shastrotejak Sabha, Pune Pandit / Scholar) spent his life in this village as deepforesiter. He was pioneer of cultivating mango gardens, coconut gardens as well as starting a small flour mill and saw mill. Padhye, Sapre, Lagwankar, Dixit, Dev, Sarfare, Chavan, Bhige, Kumbhar,bavkar,tambe,taral,khavdkar,dukhale, Misti are typical surnames of natives. They all worship Aaryadurga, Goddess and Lakshmikant, kalika Devi and Shankar. khingini, tervan, Kotapur, Pendhakahale are smaller villages around Bhoo.bhoo gavpramukh is ganapat ratnu kumbhar. Acharya Narendra Deo Vidya Mandir is the high school situated in Bhoo. The school has about 400 students every year and is affiliated with Sane Guruji Shikshan Prasarak Mandal, Janashi. The school is in the Kolhapur Divisional Board for SSC examinations. Many students have gained various prizes on district as well as state level competition.
